Days after the horrific sexual assault incident in Chennai's reputed Anna University, actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay met Tamil Nadu's Governor RN Ravi to discuss the diminishing law and order and women's safety in the state.

The actor-politician handed a petition to the Governor requesting safety of women, protection of law and order, and ensuring the State receives the due Cyclone Fengal compensation from the Union Government. Raj Bhavan too had acknowledged the same in a note it issued after Vijay's visit.

It is worth mentioning that this is Vijay's first meeting with the Governor after his political debut.

Vijay had also issued a letter to every woman in Tamil Nadu that stated that he "as their brother" is in pain when coming to know about sexual crimes against them. Slamming the ruling dispensation, the actor further said there is no point in asking this government to ensure women's safety. He gave his word to stand with women regardless of the situation and that TVK will make Tamil Nadu a safe place.

He took his attack further against the DMK government for "diverting attention" from the issue and urged all the parties to come together to make sure "our sister" gets justice.
