Following its success in Malayalam, Unni Mukundan's Marco is gearing up for release in Tamil and Telugu. Directed by Haneef Adeni, the extremely violent actioner serves as a spin-off of his 2018 film Mikhael, starring Nivin Pauly in the lead role. While the Telugu version is releasing on New Year's Day, it will be releasing in Tamil two days later on January 3, 2025.
Alongside Unni, Marco features an ensemble cast, including Kabir Duhan Singh, Anson Paul, Arjun Nandakumar, Durva Thaker, Yukti Tareja, Abhimanyu Shammy Thilakan, Ishan Shoukath, Siddique, Jagadish, and Riyaz Khan, among others.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics upon its release on December 20, Marco is currently drawing packed audiences in theatres across Kerala and beyond. Our CE review read, "Marco becomes extremely hard to sit through towards the end when a family, including kids and women, is subjected to brute torture. Violence is never the problem; why and how you show it holds the key. It is ridiculous how insensitively these portions are filmed and then repeatedly played to amp up the emotions."
With the film reportedly setting the stage for the sequel with a lead provided at the conclusion, the makers confirmed that it will be getting a second part. While production plans for the sequel remain uncertain, it is expected to materialise after a brief interval, allowing Unni Mukundan to fulfil his current commitments.
On the technical front, the film has cinematography by Chandru Selvaraj, editing by Shameer Muhammed, and music by Ravi Basrur, best known for his work on the blockbuster Kannada franchise KGF.
The film is backed by Shareef Muhammed under the banner of Cubes Entertainments in association with Unni’s home production company Unni Mukundan Films.
