V V Vaageesan, an engineering student from Chennai had earlier sought compensation worth Rs 1.1 crores from Raajkamal Films International for displaying his phone number in the film. The student has now filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court seeking to quash the Censor Board certificate.

In a scene in Amaran, the film's female lead, Sai Pallavi, shares a 10-digit phone number with Sivakarthikeyan's Mukund Varadharajan, which happened to match with Vaageesan's mobile number. The petitioner has reportedly received a barrage of phone calls on his personal number after the Rajkumar Periasamy directorial hit theatres on October 31.

The callers reportedly assumed that Vaageesan' number belonged to either Sai Pallavi or the character she portrayed, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. Earlier, when he issued a legal notice to RKFI, Kamal Haasan's banner, the firm apologised for their inadvertant mistake and masked the number before releasing the film on December 5 on Netflix.

However, Vaageesan has still moved on to file a writ petition, seeking an interim injunction to prevent the release of the movie on OTT platforms until the case is resolved. Further, he has requested Bharti Airtel Limited to be directed by the court to produce the incoming call records for his phone number from October 31.

Apart from Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, the film also stars Bhuvan Arora as Sepoy Vikram Singh and Rahul Bose as Mukund's commanding officer, Colonel Amit Singh Dabas. Lallu, Shreekumar, Shyam Mohan, Ajaey Naga Raaman, Mir Salman and Gaurav Venkatesh round up the supporting cast. Amaran is based on Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh's book India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military.

Amaran's crew includes music composer GV Prakash Kumar, cinematographer CH Sai, editor Kalaivanan, and stunt director Stefan Richter. The film is bankrolled by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International along with Sony Pictures International Productions.

The writ petition is expected to be listed for hearing before Justice S Sounthar on Friday, December 6, 2024.
