The makers of Kaali Venkat's next Dhonima have made an announcement regarding the film's release date.

The film will be releasing in theatres on September 20.

Explaining the storyline of the film, in an earlier conversation with CE, director Jegadeesan had told that Dhonima is the name of a golden retriever who will play the lead. He added the story is about a Kotti (Kaali Venkat), who is a construction worker, an alcoholic and a derelict who doesn't give his son, affected by hearing impairment, enough care. "His strong-headed wife determinedly works as a housekeeper to help make ends meet and save money for their son's surgery. She discovers a golden retriever in a dustbin and plans to raise the dog mindless about the expense it would incur. How the poor family comes to terms with this new reality and how Dhonima grows close to the family is what the film will be about," he said.

While Kaali Venkat plays the male lead, Roshni Prakash will star opposite him. The rest of the star cast includes Vishav Raj, Vivek Prasanna, Kannan Ponniah, Rajesh Sharma, PL Thenappan, Kalki Rajan and Aadukalam-fame Stella, among others.

Dhonima's director Jagadeesan Subu previously made films like Sigai (2017) and Bakrid (2019).

The technical crew of Dhonima comprises cinematography by Packiaraj and Sajith Kumar, music composed by EJ Johnson, editing by Tamil Arasan, and art direction by Madan M.
