The makers of Vaazhai released the trailer for the upcoming Mari Selvaraj directorial earlier this Monday. The trailer hints at the story of two children in a village with people whose lives seem to depend mainly on the use of unripe bananas. In a portion of the trailer, one of the kids asks the other whether the act of carrying the bunch of green bananas only exists in their village and, if it is nonexistent elsewhere, whether they could run away to that place. The kids then have a lighter moment with their school teacher (Nikhila Vimal). Soon, violence erupts in their village. The trailer of the film contains some customary Mari Selvaraj symbols, such as the statue of a village goddess (as in Karnan), and it ends with one of the kids jumping into a pool with the bananas.

The film stars Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, and Janaki. It marks the debut of Mari Selvaraj as a producer; he produced it with his wife Divya.

On the technical front, Vaazhai has cinematography by Theni Eswar, editing by Suriya Pradhaman, and music by Santhosh Narayanan.

Mari, who last made Maamannan, also has Bison Kalamaadan, starring Dhruv Vikram and Anupama Parameswaran, in the pipeline.

Vaazhai is set for an August 23 release in theatres, alongside the Anna Ben-Soori starrer Kottukkaali.
