Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 won in four categories at the 70th National Film Awards. It won Best Feature Film in Tamil. Besides, AR Rahman won Best Music Direction for Background Scores, Ravi Varman won for Best Cinematography, and Anand Krishnamoorthy won Best Sound Design. Featuring a star-studded ensemble, including Vikram, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, and Prakash Raj, among others, Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's novel that talks about the rise of Rajaraja Chola. Written by Mani Ratnam, Elango Kumaravel, and B Jeyamohan, the film hit theatres in September 2022 and also has a sequel released last year.

The cast of Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 also includes Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Nassar, Jayaram, Rahman, Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala. It is one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time.
