From Chithha to Saw X, what to watch this week in theatres

While theatres will be packed for the rest of the year, with some big films lined up for release for the festive season, this weekend is no less. After a brief lag at the cinema halls, various industries are gearing up for multiple releases this weekend.

Iraivan

Iraivan stars Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara in the lead roles, directed by I Ahmed. A crime thriller, Iraivan revolves around a serial killer who brutally assassinates young women. How a police officer nabs him forms the rest of the story. The film will release in Telugu as God.

Chithha

Helmed by SU Arunkumar, Chittha features Siddharth, Nimisha Sajayan and others. The upcoming film is a kidnap thriller with Siddharth playing the role of an uncle to young girl. Chithha is backed by Siddharth's home banner, Etaki Entertainments, and will also be released in Telugu as Chinna.

Chandramukhi 2

Chandramukhi 2 is the sequel to the 2005 film Chandramukhi. P Vasu, who helmed the former, is also directing the sequel. The upcoming film features Raghava Lawrence as King Vettaiyan Raja while Kangana Ranaut plays the titular character Chandramukhi.

The Vaccine War

The Vaccine War is directed by The Kashmir Files fame director, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri.  Anupam Kher, Nana Patekar, Sapthami Gowda, and Pallavi Joshi are the lead characters. The Vaccine War will tell the story of the crisis time when India developed the vaccine. Produced by Pallavi Joshi and I Am Buddha, the film will release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Fukrey 3

Helmed by Mrigdeep Singh Lamba, who also helmed the previous instalments in the series, Fukrey (2013) and Fukrey Returns (2017), the film stars  Pankaj Tripathi, Richa Chadha, Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh and Varun Sharma reprise their roles of Pandit, Bholi Punjaban, Honey, Lali and Choocha, respectively. Ali Fazal will be giving the third part in the series a miss.

Skanda

Skanda features Ram Pothineni and will mark his first collaboration with Boyapati Sreenu. Sreeleela and Saiee Manjrekar star as the female leads of Skanda, with Prince Cecil playing an important role. Sharath Lohithaswa, Daggubati Raja, Indraja and Gauthami play supporting roles in the film.

Kannur Squad

Kannur Squad, which marks the directorial debut of cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj, is a crime-thriller in which Mammootty plays the role of an ASI. Rony David Raj, Shabareesh Varma, Azeez Nedumanga, Deepak Parambol, Sajin Cherukayil, and Gibin Gopinath also star in the film, which is said to be based on true events. Muhammed Shafi has penned the story, while he has co-written the screenplay with actor Rony David.

Saw X

Saw X is the tenth installment in the Saw franchise. Saw X serves as the direct sequel to Saw (2004) and a prequel to Saw II (2005). Directed by Kevin Greutart, Saw X is written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The upcoming film will see the return of John Kramer, played by Tobin Bell, the original Jigsaw, reprising his role as the franchise's villain. Shawnee Smith, who is best known for playing Amanda Young in the franchise, will also reprise her role in the upcoming film.
