Actor Babu of En Uyir Thozhan fame passed away today after being paralysed and bed-ridden for thirty years, because of a failed stunt sequence.

Director Bharathiraja, who introduced Babu through En Uyiz Thozhan, mourned the demise of the actor posting a Tweet on X (fromerly Twitter) "He should have been a huge star in the film industry. Despite the accident on the sets and being bedridden, he lived with self-confidence for thirty years, before passing away. The passing away of 'My Dear Friend' Babu has left me distraught. Deep condolences."

After his debut in 1990, Babu was embraced by the audience as a rural hero and he went on to act in Vikraman's Perumpulli and Thayamma in the consecutive year. He rose to fame for the hit songs in his films like 'Kuyilu Kuppam...' and 'Hey raasathi...'. While shooting for a film titled Manasaara Vazhthungalen, he insisted on performing a stunt sequence himself without using a dupe. The scene demanded the hero to jump from the top of a building, but unfortunately, Babu lost his balance during the jump and met with a fatal accident which heavily damaged his spine and got him bedridden.

He was recently admitted to the hospital following a severe decline in his health. However, the treatments failed to improve things, and he breathed his last today.
