The much-awaited teaser of Karthi's upcoming film Japan is here. Directed by Raju Murugan, the teaser showcases Karthi in the titular role of Japan who, in the film, has successfully executed a heist of Rs 200 crores by creating a hole in the wall of a popular jewellery store.
The 1.24-minute-long teaser has actor Sunil playing the role of an investigating officer who is on the hunt for Japan already has 182 cases registered under him with the current jewellery heist being the biggest of them all.
The teaser also gives a glimpse into Japan's grandeur-filled life with money and gold. He is seen sporting gold jewellery from his sunglasses to his rings.
In an earlier conversation with Variety, Karthi called Japan a crime thriller which has elements of a "manhunt". "But apart from that, the writing and characters in the film are so well-rooted, and at the same time, it’s got a lot of flamboyance – it’s a very unique combination," he said. He further added that the film while being "so grounded" at the same time "flamboyance and the cockiness" of his role made him interested in Japan.
Backed by Dream Warrior Pictures, Japan marks the second collaboration between director Raju Murugan and Dream Warrior Pictures after Joker.
Apart from Karthi, Japan also stars KS Ravikumar, Anu Emmanuel, Sunil, and cinematographer-filmmaker Vijay Milton in pivotal roles.
While the music of Japan is by GV Prakash Kumar, the cinematography and editing are by Ravi Varman, and Philomin Raj, respectively.
Karthi's Japan and Sj Suryah-Raghava Lawrence's Jigarthanda Double X are clashing at the theatres for Diwali this year.
