Actor and politician Vijayakanth, who was admitted to MIOT hospitals in Chennai on November 18 following complaints of a throat infection, will be required to stay for two more weeks following a slight deterioration in his health condition.

The statement released by the hospital read, "Vijayakanth was showing great improvement. However, over the last 24 hours, he showed slight deterioration which requires pulmonary support. We continue to be confident that he will show a full recovery. He will be required to stay at the hospital for continuous treatment for 14 more days."

Earlier, when the news was published in the media that Vijayakanth was put on ventilator support, on November 20, the DMDK party leadership issued a statement denying the news. The statement read that Vijayakanth had gone for a routine medical check-up. He will return home in a day or two. No one should believe the false news being given on television. This is completely false. No one should believe or spread such rumours.

Vijayakanth was last seen in a cameo role in the 2015 film Sagaptham directed by Surendran and produced by LK Sudhish. It starred Vijayakanth's youngest son Shanmuga Pandian in the lead role.
