The Tamil film industry is grief-stricken by the demise of director and actor Manobala. Having starred in more than 200 films, Manobala was a frequent collaborator of RJ Balaji. From Ethir Neechal (2013) to LKG (2019), Manobala and Balaji have shared space onscreen and camaraderie offscreen.
Paying tribute to the late actor, RJ Balaji opened up about his equation with Manobala. The actor began by pointing out how the veteran was always concerned about him. "It is extremely shocking to be referring to him in the past tense, as I just met him a few days ago, and he was full of life," he says as he adds that Manobala had been by his side right from the beginning of his career. "He was constantly in touch with me, and would always check up on me, both career-wise and personally."
Speaking about their films, he shares, "We have starred together in many films, including my directorial ventures." Further, recalling an instance he had with Manobala, he says, "For various reasons, I could not include him in Veetla Visesham. He took the liberty to call me and ask, 'How come you haven't cast me in the film? I heard the shoot has been completed'."
Pointing out how apart from being a brilliant actor, Manobala was a very sweet and caring person in real life, Balaji says, "I also know that Manobala was a unifying factor in the lives of many. He was a part of everyone's first circle and was the reason for bringing a lot of people together. With a concern for others, he kept in touch with them regularly."
With grief in his voice, Balaji concludes, "His passing is a big loss for me."
