On Sunday, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan II released a snippet video showing the behind-the-scenes of AR Rahman composing music for the film. The video features singers Chinmayi, Shakthisree Gopalan, and Shweta Mohan singing and recording songs along with Rahman. 

Penning a note about being a part of Ponniyin Selvan II, Shweta Mohan wrote on Twitter, Thrilled to be a small part of this historic album. Thank you, Sir. Waiting to hear the whole album and more so to feel the music with the movie." (sic)

While the first song from Ponniyin Selvan II is out, the music and trailer launch of the film is all set to take place on March 29 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.

Directed by Mani Ratnam Ponniyin Selvan I was received very well and minted big at the box office. The epic period film also features Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R Parthiban.

The film, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's novel, is adapted by Mani Ratnam, along with Elango Kumaravel and B Jeyamohan. Produced under the Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions banners, Ponniyin Selvan was shot by Ravi Varman, while AR Rahman composed the music. The technical crew includes editor A Sreekar Prasad and production designer Thota Tharani.
