P Subramaniam, actor Ajith Kumar's father passed away in the early hours of Friday. He was 85 years old. A press note from the actor and his brothers said that he passed away in his sleep, after suffering from illness for a long time. 

The press note further read, "We are grateful for the care and support provided to him and our family by a number of medical professionals, especially following his debilitating stroke from four years ago. We are comforted, at this time of grief, that he lived a good life and knew the undying love of our mother, his partner of nearly six decades."

P Subramaniam was from Palakkad, Kerala. He is survived by his wife Mohini, and three children, Anup Kumar, Ajith Kumar and Anil Kumar. 

Members of the film fraternity and the actor's fans have been offering condolences to the actor on social media.
