We had earlier reported that filmmaker AR Murugadoss will collaborate with Bollywood producer Om Prakash Bhatt to produce a pan-Indian film titled 1947 August 16 with Gautham Karthik in the lead. The makers, on Friday, announced that the film will hit the theatres on April 7.

The film will release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam and English.

1947 August 16 borrows its title from the date that marks one day after India got independence from the British colonial rulers. The period drama is helmed by NS Ponkumar, a longtime associate of Murugadoss. Debutant Revathy is playing a lead role alongside Gautham Karthik.

The film’s technical crew consists of cinematographer Selvakumar SK, with music scored by Sean Roldan and editing handled by Sudharsan R.

Meanwhile, Gautham will be next seen in Pathu Thala which will release on March 30.
