It was earlier reported that Dhanush will be making his second directorial effort and that Kalanithi Maran will be producing the film under his Sun Pictures banner. The production house has now confirmed that shooting for the film has begun, which has been tentatively titled D50. Apart from directing the film, Dhanush also holds the writing credits for D50.

While Dhanush is expected to play the lead in the film, the makers are yet to announce the rest of the cast. Reports suggest that SJ Suryah, Dushara Vijayan, Kalidas Jayaram, Aparna Balamurali, and Sundeep Kishan will be playing prominent roles in the film. 

Dhanush made his directorial debut with Pa Paandi in 2017, which starred Rajkiran, Revathi, along with himself in a cameo role. Dhanush will next be seen in Arun Matheswaran's Captain Miller and Aanand L Rai's Tere Ishk Mein.
