Vaathi box office: Dhanush-starrer mints Rs 75 crore worldwide in first week

Vaathi/Sir, the recently released Tamil-Telugu bilingual starring Dhanush in the lead role, has collected over Rs 75 crore at the box office worldwide, during its one week of theatrical run since its release on February 17.

Vaathi is directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Sithara Entertainments. The film is set in the 90s, and shows Dhanush playing a junior school teacher named Balamurgan. Vaathi is a social drama that follows Balamurugan’s mission to correct the educational system that is corrupted by privatisation of institutions.

Besides Dhanush, the film also features Samyuktha, Samuthirakani, Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Thotapalli Madhu, Aadukalam Naren, Ken Karunas, and Ilavarasu. Vaathi has music composed GV Prakash Kumar and cinematography by J Yuvraj. Navin Nooli is the editor. The post-theatrical right of the film bagged by Netflix.

Recently, the makers released a reprised version of the song Vaa Vaathi. The video features Dhanush singing the song in the recording studio. The song is also penned by Dhanush.
