Vaathi collects Rs 51 crore during its first weekend at box office

Dhanush's recent release, Tamil-Telugu bilingual Vaathi/Sir, has collected Rs 51 crore at the box office during its first weekend of theatrical run, the makers announced on social media. The film released in theatres on Friday and received mixed responses.

Vaathi is directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Sithara Entertainments. The film is set in the 90s, and shows Dhanush playing a junior school teacher named Balamurgan. Vaathi is a social drama that follows Balamurugan’s mission to correct the educational system that is corrupted by privatisation by institutions. The film also features Samyuktha, Samuthirakani, Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Thotapalli Madhu, Aadukalam Naren, Ken Karunas, and Ilavarasu.

Vaathi has music composed GV Prakash Kumar and cinematography by J Yuvraj. Navin Nooli is the editor. The post-theatrical right of the film bagged by Netflix.

Meanwhile, Dhanush is currently working in Captain Miller with Arun Matheswaran.
