Avinash Ramachandran

Thangaraj, also known as Nellai Thangaraj, who played Kathir's father in Mari Selvaraj's Pariyerum Perumal passed away on Friday. A street play artist by profession, Thangaraj played a folk dancer in the film as well. Thangaraj received a lot of acclaim and appreciation for his performance in Pariyerum Perumal

In Pariyerum Perumal, Thangaraj plays the poignant role of the protagonist Pariyan's father who is caught unawares in the caste oppression that his son's classmates subject him to. His performance in the film, especially the naivete he exudes, even under tremendous duress. At the time of release, a lot of fans and celebrities alike heralded his debut onscreen performance as one of the highlights of Neelam Productions' first project.

The sudden demise of Thangaraj has put a pall of gloom in Tamil cinema circles. His first director Mari Selvaraj was among the many people to express their condolences on his demise.
