Complaint filed against Ranbir Kapoor for ‘hurting religious sentiments’ in viral Christmas video

A complaint has been filed against Ranbir Kapoor for “hurting religious sentiments” over a viral video which shows the actor celebrating Christmas with his family.

In the video, Ranbir is seen setting fire to a cake after liquor is poured on it. The practice is part of the Christmas flambé tradition. While setting the cake on fire, the actor is heard saying “Jai Mata Di”. Ranbir’s wife and actor Alia Bhatt is also seen in the video.

The complaint has been filed by one Sanjay Tiwari, who claimed that the actor “is seen pouring liquor on the cake and setting it on fire while saying Jai Mata Di".

"In Hinduism, the fire god is invoked before invoking other deities, but Ranbir Kapoor and his family members deliberately used intoxicants while celebrating the festival of another religion and chanted Jai Mata Di," the complaint states.

No First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the case yet.

The video is from the annual Christmas brunch hosted by Kunal Kapoor, which was attended by Ranbir, Alia and their daughter Raha.

On the work front, Ranbir is basking in the success of AnimalThe Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has made about Rs 540 crore domestically so far. It has been a good year for Alia Bhatt too. Her last release Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani minted over Rs 150 crore at the domestic box office.
