Earlier, Pa Ranjith announced that he will be doing a film with Kamal Haasan. Recently, in a media interaction, when asked about the status of the project, the filmmaker said, "I am writing the story now. After finishing Thangalaan, I will work on the script. It will take time."

During the Vikram audio launch, Ranjith revealed that he wanted to do a Madurai-based film with Kamal Haasan in the lead. I am soon going to make a film with him, and Virumaandi is my personal favourite."

While Madurai films are generally known for their rural setup with the actors donning the traditional veshti-sattai, Ranjith said, "It is not just the veshti-sattai Kamal that I'd be writing, it could also be a suited up version." Meanwhile, Kamal'a next film will be Indian 2, directed by Shankar. Ranjith is working on his upcoming film Thangalaan, starring Vikram and Parvathy.
