On Monday, the makers of August 16 1947 released character posters of Pugazh, Thillai Mani and others from the film. Directed by NS Ponkumar, the film is all set to hit theatres on April 7. 

The posters introduce Pugazh as Thavidan, Thillai Mani as Vaai Kilinjaan, Tansen as Sengadu Man and TSR as Kaadhupoottu. 

August 16 1947 borrows its title from the date that marks one day after India gained independence from the British colonial rulers. The film tells the tale of a remote village where one man battles British forces. Debutant Revathy Sharma is playing a lead role alongside Gautham Karthik.
