Filmmaker SV Ramanan passes away 

In 1983, he wrote, directed and composed the music for the feature film Uruvangal Maralam

SV Ramanan, a pioneer in radio and TV advertising, and a filmmaker passed away early this morning. Ramanan was the son of the legendary filmmaker K Subrahmanyam.

Ramanan had started his career by assisting his father, but later ventured into the radio and television industries, which had begun to grow rapidly by then.

In 1983, he wrote, directed and composed the music for the feature film Uruvangal Maralam, which had Y Gee Mahendra and Suhasini in the lead roles. Top actors like Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Jaishankar appeared in guest roles in the film. He has also directed documentary films and serials.

Ramanan is survived by his wife Bama Ramanan daughters Lakshmi and Saraswathi. Composer Anirudh Ravichander and actor Hrishikesh are his grandsons.
