The first official trailer for Ponniyin Selvan is out!

CE Features

The makers of Ponniyin Selvan have launched the first official trailer for their film through a grand audio & trailer launch event. Following the screening of the trailer at the launch venue, it was simultaneously released online. The 3-minute-long visual glimpse gave us an extensive look into the epic, historical drama. The trailer opened with veteran actor Kamal Haasan’s voice-over, setting up the plot of the film.

The film is an adaptation of the book series of the same name, written by celebrated Tamil novelist Kalki in 1954. Ponniyin Selvan is a historical drama that takes us back to a time when the Cholan Empire was at the height of its power. The film follows the power struggle between royal families as forces conspire to capture the Cholan throne. Ponniyin Selvan uses the names of real-life royalties who existed at the time but the events are fictionalised to a larger extent.

Produced by Lyca Productions, the film is directed by Mani Ratnam and has music composed by A R Rahman. Tamil writers Elango Kumaravel and B Jeyamohan have adapted the novel for the screen. The ensemble cast includes Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Sarathkumar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Vikram Prabhu.

Ponniyin Selvan-I is currently scheduled to release on 30 September 2022 in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
