Actor Nayanthara and husband-director Vignesh Shivan recently welcomed twin babies through surrogacy, which sparked controversies and legal issues surrounding the birth of their children.

Many questioned if the couple abided by all the regulations enforced by the Indian surrogacy law, upon which the Tamil Nadu government had sought an explanation from the couple. Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan had also submitted the required documents and it was made known that the couple had registered their marriage six years ago, in 2016.

It is now reported that the panel set up by the Ministry of Health, which inquired the issue, has given a clean chit to the couple. Headed by two pediatric doctors, the committee stated in its report, that Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan registered their marriage on March 11, 2016. Further, the couple abided by the surrogacy guidelines and had submitted the necessary documents as per the ICMR rules. It was also revealed that the surrogate mother, who is reported to be Nayanthara's relative, is a married woman with a child.

The committee also found that the embryo was formed in August 2020, while in November 2021 itself the surrogate mother signed the documents. The embryo was planted in March 2022 and the twin boys were born through a Caesarean procedure.

However, the probe found that the necessary documents with respect to treatment given and medical condition of the surrogate, has not been maintained in hospital.
