The Karthi-starrer Sardar will hit the theatres on October 21, marking the occasion of Diwali. Ahead of the film's release, speaking at the press meet, Karthi revealed that Mithran's one-liner about Sardar was stunning.

"PS Mithran's first film Irumbuthirai spread awareness and created curiosity in him. Likewise, his second film Hero was also based on a concept. When Lakshman (producer) made us meet, Mithran told one line about how a theatre actor turns a spy, and it was stunning," he said, adding that after developing the script, the film demanded double action.

Karthi considers Sardar an important film in his career as he got to experiment with new get-ups. He further noted that actors-- from Shivaji to my brother Suriya --have tried many looks in their films and that he got the opportunity to do that in Sardar.

"We had worked a lot to make this Indian-spy film authentically without any gimmick. This is the first time I am playing an older character and had to work a bit to understand it better. Child actor Rithvik is a big plus for this film," he said. He also praised his co-stars and technicians for making Sardar "an intelligent and interesting film." "Two films--Sardar and Sivakarthikeyan's Prince -- are releasing this Diwali. Both are different films. I hope this Diwali is a great one for both of us. I also thank the audience for showering love on Ponniyin Selvan," he signed off.
