Veteran actor Sarath Kumar, who played an important role in Mani Ratnam's recently released Ponniyin Selvan 1, has met actor Rajinikanth who has congratulated the actor for the film's success. Sarath met Rajini at the latter's residence along with the PS actor's daughter and actor Varalaxmi.

Sarath took to Twitter to share photos from the meet and captioned them, "My dear friend Rajinikanth called me and wished me for my portrayal of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar. I thanked him in person earlier today and we spoke about my upcoming work, my daughter's projects, and the growth of our film industry. We spoke for more than an hour."

Interestingly, when Kamal Haasan earlier wanted to make Ponniyin Selvan with Mani Ratnam, legendary actor Sivaji had apparently recommended Rajini's name for the role of Vanthiyathevan which was now portrayed by Karthi. In the audio launch of the film, Rajini recalled an incident where he had requested Mani for the role of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar in the film but owing to the actor's fan following, the director turned the offer down.

Ponniyin Selvan 1, which was released last week, is having a dream run at the box office and has surpassed Rs 350 crore according to makers. With music by AR Rahman, the film is produced by Mani's Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
