Ponniyin Selvan mints Rs 200 crore at box office

Ponniyin Selvan (PS-1), the recently released epic historical drama, directed by Mani Ratnam, has collected Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office, the makers shared on Monday. 

The film released in theatres on September 30 and opened to positive reception. Based on Kalki novel Ponniyin Selvan that focussed on the Chola dynasty, the film features a star ensemble. While Vikram portrayed Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi essayed the role of Arunmozhi Varman. Karthi played the role of Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan. Others part of the film include Aishwarya Rai (Nandini), Trisha (Kundavai), Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, among others. 

PS-1 has music composed by AR Rahman and the second part of the film is expected to be released sometime in 2023. Backed by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, the film released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. It was shot by Ravi Varman, edited by Sreekar Prasad, with production design handled by Thota Tharrani.
