Mumbai-based British-Indian actor Jason Shah will be a part of AR Murugadoss' new production, August 16 1947, starring Gautham Karthik in the lead role. The film, a pan-Indian period drama, was shot on locations in Tamil Nadu. It has been directed by AR Murugadoss's longtime associate NS Ponkumar.

Jason Shah has been a part of films like Thugs of Hindostan, Partner and Fitoor, as well as the television shows Jhansi Ki Rani and Barrister Babu. He also appeared as a contestant on Bigg Boss 10.

In August 16 1947, Jason portrays the role of an oppressive British officer. The film is centered on events right before and following India's Independence on August 15, 1947.

Talking about the film, Jason shares, "It's every actor's dream to work with such visionary directors and a power cast. What makes a protagonist in any movie stand out? An antagonist who creates a narrative tension that keeps the audience hooked. And that's exactly what I have tried to deliver to the audience. I am humbled for this opportunity and super excited to see how the audience receives my character."

Jason has also reportedly been in cast in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming Netflix series, Heera Mandi

August 16 1947 is produced by AR Murugadoss, Om Prakash Bhatt and Narsiram Choudhary, and co-produced by Aditya Joshi. It is expected to release soon.
