Sasikumar to return to direction?

CE Features

If speculations are to be believed, director-turned-actor Sasikumar, who has previously helmed Subramaniapuram and Easan, will soon be returning to direction after 12 years. According to sources, Sasikumar will make his comeback to direction with a web series adaptation of actor and writer Vela Ramamoorthy's novel Kutra Parambarai.

The source also reveals that the series will star veteran actor Vijayakanth's son Shanmuga Pandian, known for starring in films like Madura Veeran, in the lead role. Interestingly, Vela Ramamoorthy starred in Madura Veeran and has also acted alongside Sasikumar in films like Kidaari, Enai Noki Paayum Thota and Udanpirappe.

The novel Kutra Parambarai recounts the 19th-century story of a 'denotified' tribal community that was earlier notified by the British and was listed originally under the Criminal Tribes Act of 1871. Earlier, ace directors, Bharathiraja and Bala were planning on adapting the novel into a feature film which didn't take off for several reasons. An official announcement regarding the web series by Sasikumar is expected soon.

Meanwhile, Sasikumar has films like Pagaivanuku Arulvai, Common Man and Kaari in different stages of production.
