Earlier in the day, we had reported about Suriya getting invited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to join the organisation. Suriya was among the 397 distinguished artists invited this year, which includes 71 Oscar nominees. Incidentally, he is the first South Indian actor to receive this honour.

The Jai Bhim actor has now thanked the Academy through his Twitter handle. He also expressed his gratitude to all those who wished him and assured that he will always "strive to make everyone proud".

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had also congratulated actor Suriya for receiving the prestigious invitation. The CM in his statement said the invite was a recognition of Suriya's evolved acting skills and his selection of relevant stories concentrated on societal well being.

Every year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invites artists, technicians, and executives to join the organisation. The membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion, and equity.

This year's class of invitees includes Bollywood actor Kajol, and filmmakers Pan Nalin, and Reema Kagti. Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, the makers of this year's Oscar-nominated documentary Writing with Fire, have also made the cut.
