Pa Ranjith's celebrates two of his films' anniversaries

Filmmaker Pa Ranjith who has defined Tamil cinema, with his politically and ideologically charged, progressive films on caste and oppression, is celebrating the release anniversaries of two of his films, Kabali (2016) and Sarpatta Parambarai (2021), on Friday.

Kabali, which released on July 22, 2016, stars Rajinikanth in the lead role. The film marked the maiden collaboration of the actor with Ranjith, after which the duo again came together for Kaala. Kabali followed the life of an aged gangster who goes on revenge, while still searching for his wife and daughter. The film stars Radhika Apte, Sai Dhanshika, Mime Gopi, among others.

Meanwhile, Sarpatta Parambarai, which released directly on Amazon Prime Video, is a period sports drama, set against the backdrop of north Chennai. The film, which stars Arya, Pasupathi, Dushara Vijayan, among others, and revolves around boxing clans.  The film opened to positive reviews and was praised for its screenplay and characterizations.

Meanwhile, Ranjith is awaiting the release of his directorial Natchathiram Nagargiradhu. The film marks Ranjith’s return to romance genre since his debut Attakathi. The film is set in a theatre backdrop and introduces the actors in the troupe as the leads. The film, starring Kalaiyarasan, Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan, Hari Krishnan, Vinoth, Subathra Robert and Shabeer Kallarakkal, among others.
