Raghava Lawrence’s sequel to superstar Rajinikanth’s blockbuster Chandramukhi starts shooting in Mysore from today. The choreographer-turned actor confirmed the news today on Twitter with pictures of him at superstar Rajinikanth’s residence, receiving blessings from him before starting the film.
Hi friends and fans, Today Chandramukhi 2 shooting begins in Mysore with my Thalaivar and guru’s @rajinikanth blessings! I need all your wishes!
17 years after the original film’s release, director P.Vasu returns to direct the sequel while comedian Vadivelu, a fan favourite from the original, is also coming back to play a key role in the sequel. However, it is unclear whether he is returning to reprise his role from the original.
Chandramukhi, released in 2005, was borderline experimental for its use of combining thriller elements with the mass hero moments typically seen in a Rajini film. It subverted all expectations to become a massive box office success, running for a record-shattering 890 days in theatres. MM Keeravani is reportedly onboard to compose the music for the sequel, replacing music director Vidyasagar from the original. The original Chandramukhi is itself a remake of the Malayalam classic Manichitrathazhu.
It is worth noting that actor Raghava Lawrence had previously enjoyed a successful run in the horror genre with his Muni franchise.
