It should come as a relief to Vijay and his fans as Madras High Court has expunged the scathing remarks made on the actor in the Rolls Royce case. Last year, Vijay came under heavy criticism for challenging the tax imposition on his imported luxury vehicle, Rolls Royce Ghost. Justice SM Subramaniam made some harsh remarks on the actor and levied a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Now, the remarks by the judge have been expunged by the Madras High Court. 

This has come after an appeal made by the Tamil star to expunge the remarks. In his appeal, Vijay's counsel mentioned that the actor has paid the entire tax of Rs 32 lakhs for the imported vehicle from England. His counsel also argued that the earlier remarks on the actor put him and the film industry in a bad light.

Hearing the pleas, the Madras High Court bench headed by Justice Pushpa Satyanarayana and Justice Mohammad Shafiq ordered the removal of the harsh comments on the actor. 

Last year, Justice Subramaniam criticised Vijay for challenging the entry tax levied on his car, and asked him to not behave like a 'reel life hero'. He also termed the act of evading tax as an 'anti-national habit'.

“People are under the impression that they are the real heroes. Thus, they are not expected to behave like reel heroes. Tax evasion is to be construed as an anti-national habit, attitude, and mindset and unconstitutional. These actors are portraying themselves as champions to bring social justice to society. Their pictures are against corrupt activities in society. But, they are evading tax and acting in a manner, which is not in consonance with the provisions of the statutes,” Justice Subramaniam said in July.
