Three-time Tamil Nadu State Award-winning lyricist Kavignar Kamakodeyen passed away earlier today due to age-related issues. He was 76.

The late lyricist, known predominantly for his collaboration with music composers like MS Viswanathan, Ilaiyaraaja, and Deva, had penned over 1000 songs in a career spanning over three decades.

Kamakodeyen's debut song was Vaazhukindra Makkalukku from the 1980 Sarath Babu, Shobana-starrer Ponnagaram. With music by Shankar-Ganesh, the song had vocals by KJ Yesudas. 

In 2001, the lyricist won the State Government's Kalai Vithakar Award, and he was felicitated with the Kavignar Kannadasan Award by Kannadasan-Viswanathan Arakkatalai in 2006. He was awarded the Kalaimamani award by the State Government last year.

The final rites will be held today evening at his residence in RA Puram, Chennai.
