R Parthiban took to Twitter to retweet a post with a quote from reputed film critic Saibal Chatterjee that corroborated the director's claim that Iravin Nizhal is the world’s first single-shot non-linear film. Saibal Chatterjee’s statement reads “Fish and Cat is a single shot film, but it definitely does not have a non-linear narrative like Iravin Nizhal

Iravin Nizhal, written, and directed by R Parthiban, was released on 15 July to glowing reviews from critics and audiences alike. The director, who also played the lead role in the film, marketed the film as the world's first single-shot non-linear film. The painstaking way in which the film was shot was also presented at the beginning of the film.

However, shortly after the film’s release, some critics noted how the Iranian film Cat & Fish released in 2013, directed by Shahram Mokri had already employed the single-shot non-linear narrative.

Following the backlash, R Parthiban came out with a statement from a reputed film critic that backed his claim. It is worth noting that Saibal Chatterjee is the founding member of the Film Critics Circle of India.
