RJ Vijay, who is best known for portraying supporting roles, is finally playing the lead in a film alongside Anjali Nair. Directed by Hemanathan R, the title of the film was revealed to be Wife. Reflecting upon his new career evolution as a leading man, Vijay says, "I've played the hero's friend in countless films but this is the first time I am doing a role like this.  Even though I play one of the leads in the upcoming Nanban Oruvan Vandha Piragu, Wife is the first time I have played such a prominent role."

According to the actor, Wife is a lighthearted romantic comedy about a married couple who have a kid. "The film is about a young couple and it delves into themes like how we express our love for someone and why we choose to stay in a relationship. It is a story anybody can relate to." If the film is about a couple then why does the title refer to the wife alone, one wonders. Vijay playfully replies, "Wife is life". He then continues, "Even though Wife talks about married life and how romance evolves after marriage on a broader scale, the film also reflects on the importance of understanding and respecting your wife."

On his plans for the future, Vijay replies, "I want to do everything that seems fun to me. I love filmmaking and I strive to learn every aspect of it, that's why when I'm not in front of the camera, you could either find me at the editing desk or with the cinematographer, observing and learning."

According to the actor, the film, which is set in Chennai, has 5 more days of shooting before it enters post-production. The technical crew of Wife consists of cinematographer KA Shakthivel, composer Jen Martin, and art director Siva Sankar.
