Actor Randeep Hooda has been criticised for a joke he made about politician Mayawati nine years ago. A video of the actor making the joke at a media conclave went viral recently. He has been slammed for his ‘casteist’ and ‘sexist’ remarks.

On Friday, Richa Chadha, who had starred with Randeep in Sarabjit, slammed the actor for his comments. A social media user had tagged Richa and other female actors asking if they would condemn his statements.

“It's a despicable 'joke'. It's crass, tasteless and sexist,” Richa tweeted. She added: “Yes. It's casteist too.”

However, Richa also asked why only female colleagues are being expected to apologize for his comment.

“Also, please explain the reason why you continue to ask ONLY women to apologise for their male colleagues while you pontificate on sexism. Not holding my breath.”

After the video resurfaced, Randeep was removed as an United Nations treaty ambassador over the joke.

He was appointed as an ambassador for the Convention for the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), better known as the Bonn Convention, in 2020.
