Actor-filmmaker Elizabeth Banks will be directing the series adaptation of Victoria Aveyard's young-adult fantasy novel Red Queen. In addition to wielding the megaphone, Banks, who last directed the 2019-reboot of Charlie's Angels, will be executive producing and starring in a major supporting role in the series. 

The novel is set in an alternate, near-future America where a monarchy led by a group of humans with supernatural abilities outthrow democratic rule to reign supreme before a young, poverty-stricken commoner Mare discovers her innate superpowers.

Beth Schwartz, the former showrunner of Arrow, will be penning the adapted screenplay along with Victoria Aveyard, while Warner Bros TV will be bankrolling the show in association with Banks' production house Brownstone and Universal Studio Group.

On the acting front, Banks started filming for the forthcoming drama Call Jane, co-starring Sigourney Weaver, and Kate Mara, last month.
