Lee Isaac Chung’s Oscar-nominated film Minari is set to make its streaming debut on May 11 on Amazon Prime Video, as announced by the streaming giant. The film was nominated in six categories at the recently-concluded Academy Awards, including the Best Picture and Best Director. Yuh-jung Youn, who plays Soon-ja, the warm grandmother, bagged the trophy for the Best Supporting Actress, becoming the first Korean actress to receive the honour.

A semi-autobiographical drama based on Lee Isaac Chung's life, the film follows a family of Korean immigrants trying to realise their American dream in the 1980s and the conflicts that ensue in the family.

Steven Yeun, who plays the ambitious Korean-American father, was also nominated for Best Actor but was beaten by Anthony Hopkins for his performance in The Father.

Minari also stirred controversy when it was placed in the Best Foreign Film category as opposed to Best Drama in the nominations of this year's Golden Globes ascribed to the film's usage of Korean dialogues. Nevertheless, the film bagged the Best Foreign Film award.
