Actor Ali Wong has roped in to play a lead role in Amazon's upcoming series Paper Girls.

Based on the graphic novel series by writer Brian K Vaughan and artist Cliff Chiang, Paper Girls is set in 1988 and follows four young girls who, while delivering papers on Halloween morning, unwittingly get caught in a conflict between warring factions of time-travellers, which sends them on an adventure through time to save the world.

Wong will play the adult version of a character named Erin. When a 12-year-old Erin Tiend (Riley Lai Nelet) comes face-to-face with her, they are forced to confront the gap between their childhood hopes, dreams, ambitions and the reality of their grown-up life.

Other than Nelet and Wong, the series also stars Sofia Rosinsky, Camryn Jones, and Fina Strazza

Wong, a popular stand-up comedian, is known for her hit stand up specials Baby Cobra and Hard Knock Wife. She is also known for starring in, co-writing, and producing the romcom Always Be My Maybe.

Wong is currently voicing one of the lead characters in Tuca and Bertie, and will star in Netflix's upcoming dramedy series Beef, opposite Steven Yeun.

Paper Girls hails from Amazon Studios and Legendary Television in association with Plan B. Stephany Folsom and Christopher C Rogers are set to serve as executive producers and co-showrunners, with Vaughan, Chiang, Plan B, and Christopher Cantwell also executive producing.
