Moonstruck-actor Olympia Dukakis passes away

Olympia Dukakis, best known for her Oscar-winning performance in the 1987 film Moonstruck has passed away. She was 89.

The news of her demise has been officially confirmed by Olympia Dukakis' brother Apollo Dukakis in a Facebook post. He wrote “My beloved sister, Olympia Dukakis, passed away this morning in New York City. After many months of failing health, she is finally at peace and with her Louis.”

In addition to Moonstruck, Dukakis was nominated thrice - Lucky Day in 1991, Armistead Maupin’s More Tales of the City in 1998, and Joan of Arc in 1999. Her life also inspired the documentary Olympia, which released in 2020.

Olympia Dukakis is survived by daughter Christina Zorich and sons Peter and Stefan Zorich.
