Oscars 2021 nominations: Suriya's Soorarai Pottru misses out

CE Features

It has come as a disappointment to Suriya fans that Soorarai Pottru has missed out on the Oscar 2021 race. The film, directed by Sudha Kongara, was sent to the 93rd Academy Awards as a paid submission under the general category.

Earlier, the film was accepted for screening at the Academy Screening Room following a paid submission. The members then had to vote for it several times for the movie to qualify for the next round, and from there to make it to the list of nominees. Unfortunately, Sudha Kongara's film failed to make the cut.

Soorarai Pottru, inspired by the real-life story of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath, premiered on Amazon Prime Video in November, last year, to widespread critical acclaim.

Produced by Suriya's own production banner, 2D Entertainment, and Sikhya Entertainment, the film also stars Aparna Balamurali, Mohan Babu, Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, and Karunaas.
