Director SP Jananathan critically ill, admitted to hospital

The filmmaker is currently under observation in the ICU; more information on his health is expected soon

Director SP Jananathan, famous for helming films like Iyarkai and Peranmai, has been admitted to Apollo Hospital in Greams Road, Chennai. A source close to the director has stated that Jananathan was rushed to the hospital by his assistants earlier this evening. He is currently under observation in the Intensive Care Unit. More information on his health is expected soon. 

Winner of the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for his very first film Iyarkai, Jananathan is known for making socially conscious films. After Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai in 2015, the 61-year-old filmmaker's next is the yet-to-be-released Laabam, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan.
