A Madame Xanadu series is reportedly in development at HBO Max. The popular DC Comics character is an immortal sorceress who dates back to the time of King Arthur.

Filmmaker Angela Robinson (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, True Blood) is writing the one-hour drama series. If the series gets a green light, Robinson will also executive produce along with JJ Abrams and Ben Stephenson. Rachel Rusch Rich will co-executive produce.

Madame Xanadu, first known as Nimue Inwundu, has deep ties to the legend of King Arthur and the wizard Merlin. She is a powerful magician who has lived for many centuries, can foresee the future and keeps a collection of malevolent forces captured in mason jars.

Notably, Madame Xanadu is also one of the founding members of the Justice League Dark, the DC team consisting of popular supernatural characters from the world of DC Comics. Interestingly, a Justice League Dark series is also in the works at HBO Max. Xanadu won't be the first JLD member to have a solo show/film. A John Constantine series and a Zatanna film are also in development.

Meanwhile, Robinson is working with cartoonist and author Terry Moore on a feature adaptation of his LGBTQ graphic novel Strangers in Paradise. She is also directing a remake of the 1983 cult classic The Hunger for Warner Bros.
