A departure from my status quo: Abhay Deol on his first Disney film, Spin

CE Features

Abhay Deol on Saturday shared the trailer of his first Disney film, Spin. The comedy-drama will be available for US audiences on Disney Channel from August 13.

Abhay called the film a major creative departure for him. Directed by Manjari Makijany, Spin follows an Indian-American girl who takes to deejaying. The protagonist, Rhea Kumar, is played by Avantika Vandanapu. Abhay is cast as Rhea's father Arvind Kumar.

"I am aware that most of my audience love me for making edgy, alternative narratives, that challenge the status quo," Abhay wrote on Instagram. "Which is why this film is all the more special as it is a departure from my own status quo, and catering to a much younger audience. Spin is a Disney film which will go live on their platform for the U.S audiences on the 13th of August. It is a gem of a movie, that will leave you smiling and feeling good. Blessed to be a part of it!"

Spin also features Meera Syal, Aryan Simhadri, Agam Darshi, Anna Cathcart and Michela Luci.

This is Manjari's second feature release after the recent Skater Girl (on Netflix). She's the daughter of late actor Mac Mohan and a cousin of Raveena Tandon.
