Comedian and actor Jerry Seinfeld will star in, direct and produced a comedy film for Netflix titled Unfrosted.

Unfrosted, written by Seinfeld along with Spike Feresten and Barry Marder, is a story inspired by a joke the stand-up comedian said once about the world-shaking invention of Pop-Tarts.

The script has got a green light from Netflix, with production scheduled to start next spring. Netflix and Seinfeld have had a fruitful relationship since 2017 when Netflix bought the comedian's interview series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, in addition to the stand-up specials Jerry Before Seinfeld and 23 Hours to Kill. Last year, Netflix made a global deal to stream episodes of the sitcom, Seinfeld, for five years.

The popular Pop-Tart joke recounts the moment the breakfast product rocked the world Seinfeld when he was in school. “How did they know that there would be a need for a frosted fruit-filled heated rectangle in the same shape as the box it comes in, and with the same nutrition as the box it comes in?” he exclaims during the segment.

This is not the first time Seinfeld is foraying into films. He co-wrote, produced and voiced the lead role, Barry B Benson, in 2007's Bee Movie. He also performed and executive produced the 2002 documentary Comedian.
