Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is set to have its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival this September. The film features a large ensemble cast including the likes of Hollywood A-listers such as Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Sharon Duncan Brewster, Zendaya, Chang Chen and David Dastmalchian, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.
Dune will be screened under the out-of-competition category on September 3, marking Villeneuve’s return to the festival after the premiere of Arrival in 2016. An adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science fiction bestseller by the same name, Dune has a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Eric Roth, and Vileneuve.
The film follows the story of Paul Atreides, a gifted youngster who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. The film was scheduled to release in December 2020, but had to be postponed due to the pandemic.
Dune is now scheduled to release on October 1 simultaneously on HBO Max and in theatres, continuing Warner Bros' multi-format release strategy.
