Popular 80's sitcom Perfect Strangers is getting a reboot with Robin Thede and London Hughes set as leads.
The reboot, which is being developed as a series at HBO Max, will also be written by Thede, who is known for starring in and writing A Black Lady Sketch Show. The streamer has given a nod to a script development deal.
As the title suggests, the show follows perfect strangers, Deja (Thede), and Poppy (Hughes), who unexpectedly discover that they are half-sisters when they both share a one-bedroom apartment above a trap yoga studio in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. With contrasting characteristics, they must learn how to live and work together.
The original series, which starred Mark Linn-Baker and Bronson Pinchot in the lead, ran for eight seasons in 151 episodes between 1986 and 1993 on ABC.
The reboot is produced by Warner Bros. Television with Thede executive producing under her For Better or Words, and Robert Boyett, who produced the original.
Thede's A Black Lady Sketch Show recently aired its second season in HBO Max and has been renewed for a third season. She is also currently writing Fashionably Black for HBO Max with Christa Gatewood, as well as Amazon's action zombie-comedy Killing It.
Hughes, who featured in Fleabag and recently hosted The Netflix Afterparty, is developing the comedy feature Hot Mess.
