Rajkumar Santoshi’s The Legend of Bhagat Singh completes 19 years today. The film, which starred Ajay Devgn as the revolutionary freedom fighter, was released in theatres on June 7 in 2002.

On Instagram, Ajay shared a picture of himself as Saheed Bhagat Singh.

"It is not sufficient to play a revolutionary like Bhagat Singhji, once in your lifetime & career. You need to keep him there constantly... After all, these are those who wrote history with their blood," the actor wrote.

Ajay had won a National Film Award as Best Actor for The Legend of Bhagat Singh. The film also won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.

Besides Ajay, actors like Manoj Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Sonu Sood and Bobby Deol have played Bhagat Singh in the past. Rang De Basanti (2006) featured a mise-en-abyme on Bhagat Singh and his comrades. The character was played by Siddharth.
