Jennifer Lopez signs multi-year production Deal With Netflix

CE Features

Actor-Singer Jennifer Lopez, who runs Nuyorican Productions, has signed a multi-year, first-look deal with Netflix. Along with producing partners Benny Medina and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Lopez will produce a lineup of film and television content, both scripted and unscripted, that features diverse female actors, writers and filmmakers.

It may be recalled that Netflix had announced two feature films starring Lopez — The Mother, helmed by Niki Caro of Mulan fame, and The Cipher, based on the novel of the same name by Isabel Ojeda Maldonado.

The Mother revolves around a lethal female assassin who comes out of hiding to teach her daughter the art of survival. The screenplay of the film had been penned by Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green, with current revisions by Andrea Berloff of Straight Outta Compton fame.

The Cipher, on the other hand, centres on FBI Special Agent Nina Guerrera, who finds herself attracted to a serial killer’s case after he strategically posts complex codes and riddles online. The codes match with recent murders, designed to pull her into a cat-and-mouse chase.

Lopez is currently training for her role in The Mother, with production set to begin this September with a plan to release it by the end of 2022. The actor was last seen in Hustlers, which she co-produced with her Nuyorican banner. She also has Marry Me by Kat Coiro in her kitty.
